Fearne Cotton confesses she has become addicted to DIY – The Sun

TV PRESENTER Fearne Cotton has revealed she has become addicted to DIY.

She made the revelation as she returned to front the Dulux Colour of the Year 2020, Tranquil Dawn™.

After the success of Spiced Honey™ in 2019, Fearne, 38, is back as the ambassador for Dulux Colour of the Year 2020, Tranquil Dawn™.

She revealed that as she learns more about colour, she’s redecorated every room in the London home she shares with husband Jesse and their children, Rex and Honey.

Fearne says: “I think I have become addicted to decorating, painting in particular. In the past year, I looked at my house and thought it was actually quite boring in terms of the decor.

"I’ve tried to be braver, with things like painting ceilings in colour – I’d never considered the ceiling before!”

Tranquil Dawn™ is a soft, nature inspired green that captures the nation’s mood as we enter a new decade. It reflects a growing desire to understand what it is to be human at a time when advances in technology are making us feel increasingly disconnected from each other and nature.

The Dulux colour story for 2020 chimes perfectly with how Fearne, author of mindfulness books Calm, Happy and Quiet, approaches every day.

I think I have become addicted to decorating, painting in particular. In the past year, I looked at my house and thought it was actually quite boring in terms of the decor.

“Tranquil Dawn™ is a colour I already have in my house, in the front room and my bedroom,” she reveals. “Both of these are rooms where I like to relax and feel calm. That feeling of being closer to nature, of bringing the outside in, is one I love, and this colour does that perfectly.

“I want to create inviting spaces at home, where if it’s family who are there or friends are visiting, we can lock eyes, connect and there isn’t a screen to be seen.

“Switching off is something few of us actually achieve in reality. Life is so busy with work, friends and family that we all need time when there is less thinking, and we just enjoy the simple things again.

“For me, that means walking, running, listening to music, painting, baking and drawing – things that are instinctive and bring me joy. It’s so important to make room for joy in our busy lives.”

To inspire people to have a go at DIY and bring some Tranquil Dawn™ into every room of the house, Fearne and Dulux will be launching a series of top tips and how-to videos.

Tranquil Dawn™ has four supporting trend palettes: Care, Play, Meaning and Creativity which demonstrate how colours can be used to create spaces that enhance what we all need and want in the year ahead: to care for ourselves and the planet, to play, to seek more meaningful connections with each other and nature and to be more creative.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux, continues: “A new decade heralds a new dawn and the soft, misty green of Tranquil Dawn™ offers us the perfect calming and comforting shade just when we need both elements most.

"When paired with neutral pastels and rich jewel colours, it becomes incredibly powerful at creating spaces that encourage a greater sense of wellbeing and making better connections with the ones we love.”
