GMB viewers slam Michael Gove’s ‘car crash’ interview: ‘What a waste of time’

Piers Morgan was keen to get some clarity on the government’s guidelines regarding key workers as the UK goes into lockdown. The Good Morning Britain host welcomed Michael Gove onto the show and wanted to know if he thought Sports Direct employees and builders were key workers as many were still being told to go to work. The pair went in circles as Morgan demanded a clear answer from the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Morgan noted Sports Direct had “self-identified” as key workers and Gove agreed this was not correct.

“I can’t see any justification for Sports Direct to be open,” he remarked. “Mike Ashley should rescind what he said.”

Morgan went on to ask about construction workers: “Other than to make secure building sites in Britain today, is there any other reason why builders should be going to work?”

“Yes there is some essential work that needs to continue,” Gove replied.
