Who is in the cast of Grace on ITV?

Detective Roy Grace – John Simm

John Simm stars as Detective Roy Grace in the series.

Grace is a Brighton based Detective Superintendent, who has dedicated his life to his work.

Simm is best known for playing Sam Tyler in Life on Mars and The Master in Doctor Who.

His other credits include Crime and Punishment, Cracker, Wonderland and Strangers.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press, Simm said he was “absolutely honoured” to be asked to play Roy Grace.

He continued: “I devoured the first three novels very quickly and I was absolutely hooked. I’m on book 10 at the moment.”

Describing Roy Grace, Simm said: “He’s pretty inscrutable. He is a brilliant cop he has had a wonderful career and also has been visited by tragedy with his wife going missing

“For such a brilliant detective, it is kind of ironic that he cannot solve that. So that is always hanging over him.

“He uses strange methods but as he says in the script, ‘its something in my back pocket, I want to explore all avenues no matter what it is. If it works, it works.’

“It doesn’t matter, he just wants to go for it and get the result and that’s it.

“But having said that, he is not a maverick or anything, he’s just a really really good police officer and so when we meet him he is really down in his luck.

“He is in the middle of a trial because he went to see a medium to try and help him and this was picked up by the media and gets brought up in the trial.

“So, he is in the middle of a really stressful trial and he has been demoted while this happens to cold cases. So he is in an office doing paperwork and pretty down on his luck when we first meet him.”

DS Glenn Branson – Richie Campbell

Richie Campbell stars as Detective Roy Grace’s right-hand man, DS Glenn Branson.

Grace viewers will most likely recognise Campbell from his role as Dominic Hardy in The Bill and Ndale Kayuni in Waterloo Road.

He is also well known for playing Sergeant Joseph Nightingale in The Frankenstein Chronicles and Viv in Eve.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press about taking on the role of DS Glenn Branson, Campbell said the relationship between Branson and Grace was what attracted him, too, the role.

He said: “Just seeing the heart and the friendship of these two guys and also they love their job and they are trying to do their work and I think you see that in the book and Russell has done brilliantly to adapt that from the page and it was up to us to just lift it up really and it was so easy, it really was.”

Campbell continued: “I do think that [their friendship] is the real heart of the piece, just seeing these two guys just gelling of each other and trying to solve cases.

“It’s the respect they have for each other and the way I look at is it, Brandon really admires the way Grace works.”

ACC Vosper – Rakie Ayola

Rakie Ayola stars as ACC Vosper in Grace on ITV.

Ayola is best known for playing Kyla Tysonin Holby City and Olivia Lennox in Shetland.

She is also well known for playing Jeanette Winterson in the drama film, Great Moments n Aviation.

Her other credits include The i Inside, Sahara, Solider Solider and Doctor Who.

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other press about ACC Vosper, Ayola said: “She’s the boss. How nice is that?

“It was really nice to play the person in charge and it just brings ease with it because people just have to give you that status whether they want to or not so other people do your job for you in a way so that was nice.

“She’s in a managerial and organisational role and she admires and respects Grace very very much and she knows that he is a good detective what she doesn’t love is his unorthodox methods and she has to explain them to people upstairs and to the press and even when they work and he’s made the right call, policing as far is she is concerned is not a spiritual, otherworldly profession and so she has no way of spinning the fact that he often does what he does. She has no procedural way of selling that and that frustrates her.

“It’s a tricky one. He’s brilliant at this job but he is infuriating and he is having to manage that all of the time.”

Chernobyl’s Laura Elphinstone plays the role of DS Bella Moy opposite Vera’s Amaka Okafor as DC Emma Jane Boutwood.

Stage star Brad Morrison portrays DC Nicholl alongside, Scarborough’s Rebecca Scrogs as Ari and Vera’s Alexander Cobb as Kevin Spinella.

Also in the cast, if Chernobyl’s Adrian Rawlings, Sex Education’s Natasha Joseph, Dickensian’s Tom Weston-Jones, Bodyguard’s Matt Stokoe, Chewing Gum’s Alisha Bailey and White Lines star Maggie O’Neill.
