Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield down wine and scoff ice cream on final This Morning before summer break

HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield downed wine and scoffed ice cream on their final This Morning before their summer break today.

The ITV daytime show kicked off with Phil excitedly driving an ice cream van into the studio, with he and his co-star in high spirits throughout.

The pair don't usually present the show on a Friday, but made a special exception as this is their final week on air until September.

Holly, 39, couldn't stop giggling as she served Phil, 58, a Mr. Whippy ice cream from their van – Mister Creamy.

She lost control of the machine and ended up serving her friend a huge amount, covering the treat in strawberry sauce in a desperate bid to improve its appearance.

Despite Holly joking that she wasn't going to leave the ice cream van all day, they eventually handed it over to Alison Hammond – who had an accident of her own when ice cream squirted all over her black cardigan off-camera.

Later in the show, Phil and Holly were treated to a feature that compared cheap wine to high-end counterparts, with the pair claiming it was their "end of term treat" as they guzzled the alcohol.

Holly admitted that she wasn't usually a wine fan, joking that she prefers "hard liquor", with Phil sharing his shock that producers had included a bottle of wine worth over £200 for the segment.

Later, John Torode returned to the studio to cook delicious-looking lobster rolls for the team – while maintaining strict social distancing.

Holly and Phil then signed off the programme with a video montage of their This Morning best bits from the past year – including several hilarious moments.

However, the most poignant scenes in the montage were undoubtedly the moment that Phil came out as gay live on air earlier this year, as well as Alison breaking down in tears as she emotionally discussed her experiences with racism and the Black Lives Matter movement.

Thanking the crew for a year of hard work -particularly during the last 15 weeks of lockdown – Phil paid touching tribute to the This Morning team.

He said: "We often talk about our This Morning family on screen but that family genuinely extends behind the scenes and we've all kept each other going through this very tough time.

"So we wanted to say thank you to our producers, researchers, director, editor, and all the amazing crew here on the studio floor and the many, many more who have been working from home throughout this pandemic so that we can keep you company each morning."

Turning to Holly, he added: "Hopefully when we come back in September I can give you a bloody hug!"

The pair, Alison, and John then all toasted each other as they wished their viewers a "wonderful summer".

Holly and Phil will return to our screens in September after their annual summer break, with Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes taking over as the main hosts of the show.

Holly was left seething earlier today after Bernie Ecclestone's controversial remarks about women on This Morning.

The former F1 boss was slammed after admitting that he won't change nappies or do night feeds because "that's what wives are for".

And his comments left This Morning host Holly wincing after what social media users described as a "car crash interview".
