Inside Strictly rehearsals as stars scoff cake and moan about aches and pains

The stars of Strictly Come Dancing 2019 have given fans a glimpse behind-the-scenes as they get stuck into their last week of rehearsals.

The BBC's hit talent show returns to TV on Saturday night with the celebrities set to dance for the first time.

They've got just four days left to practise and many of them have been sharing updates from their training sessions.

As well as gripes about painful feet and aching backs, the stars have also been indulging in sweet treats to reward their hard work.

Anneka Rice revealed she and her partner Kevin Clifton struggled last week, but ended up indulging in cake and ice cream.

In a post on Instagram , she wrote: "Another joyful day in Strictlyland with  @keviclifton  Who knew I’d love dancing so much. He is a miracle-maker.

"I’m not joking, I honestly thought I’d struggle so much there would be no fun involved. Hello!

"End of our first week and we’ve managed to learn the routine while still having time for buns, cakes, ice creams. I love the  #Strictly  diet.  #strictlycomedancing ."

However, one star not faring so well was influencer Saffron Barker, who's paired with AJ Pritchard.

She complained that her feet hurt so much, she had to wear thick socks with her dance shoes.

Saffron, 19, also complained about having difficulty learning the routine – and partner AJ agreed she was not making good progress.

In a video posted on Instagram, she said: "I'm having to wear socks cos my feet are in agony…

"Today is not a good day. Everything has gone wrong. I can't even do my dance any more."

AJ added: "It's taking two steps forward to take three steps back at the moment."

Another star in pain was Dev Griffin, whose partner Dianne Buswell revealed he'd been suffering back pain while learning the Foxtrot.

She said: "We are doing the Foxtrot and it's hurting your back so you have to stretch for about an hour after wards."

However, she later treated him to a cake to say well done.

One star who didn't get cake was Catherine Tyldesley, who continued training even on her birthday.

The former Corrie star turned 36 today and posted a message to fans as she headed to rehearsals.

She said: "It's my birthday so I'm allowed to be this happy – I'm on my way to rehearsals.

"I'm a great mood despite the fact that I'm a year older.

"So not long to go now. I'm just going to keep smiling and hope that everything's ok."

Footballer Alex Scott posted a funny message telling fans she was learning a Chasse, but was struggling to pronounce the name.
