Jamie Oliver employs 'cultural appropriation specialists' so recipes avoid woke brigade backlash

JAMIE Oliver employs “cultural appropriation specialists” to make sure his recipes avoid a woke brigade backlash.

The TV chef’s dishes are all vetted, with times having changed so much he says his 2012 Empire roast chicken would be unpalatable today.

Oliver, 46, added: “Your immediate reaction is to be defensive and say, ‘For the love of God, really?’.

Then you go, ‘We don’t want to offend anyone’.”

Other chefs have got into hot water over this.

Gordon Ramsay, 55, got roasted when his Lucky Cat restaurant in London was described as an “authentic Asian eating house” despite not having a chef from the Far East.

Oliver is Britain’s bestselling non-fiction writer, having sold more than 48 million books.

The MasterChef judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode got a dressing down from the Malaysian foreign minister for “whitesplaining” how to prepare rendang to a Malaysian-born contestant on the BBC1 show.

Orwell’s 1984 gets a trigger warning

Isaac Crowson

A UNIVERSITY has issued a trigger warning about George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four as it reckons it might be “offensive and upsetting”.

University of Northampton staff have classed the novel — which sounds a chilling alert about the dangers of censorship — as “explicit material”.

Critics say their warning contradicts the themes in the 1949 book. The story, set in a totalitarian state that persecutes individual thinking, warns of what can happen to a society that does not cherish academic freedoms or its history.

It is among several literary works being flagged up at the university. Tory MP Andrew Bridgen said: “There’s a certain irony that students are being issued trigger warnings before reading Nineteen Eighty-Four.”
