The New York Times reported Epstein insisted he had been attacked by his cellmate, but the correctional staff suspected it was an attempted suicide.

As a result, he was placed on suicide watch and six days later, he was taken off suicide watch and was placed in a special housing unit with another inmate.

On August 9, 2019, Epstein’s cellmate was transferred out and no replacement was brought in, leaving Epstein alone.

As part of the jail’s security procedure, guards were instructed to look into Epstein’s cell every 30 minutes, however, on the night of Epstein’s death, this did not happen.

The two guards who were assigned to check on his cell were asleep and did not check on Epstein for approximately three hours, according to two Bureau of Prisons officials.

The two security cameras outside Epstein’s cell also malfunctioned on the evening, and no CCTV footage exists of his death.

Epstein was found dead at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in New York City at 6:30am on August 10, 2019. He was 66-years-old.

The medical examiner ruled Epstein’s death as suicide by hanging. However, there has been great public scepticism about the true cause of his death.

Some of the conspiracy theories are discussed in the documentary.

For example, the autopsy found the hyoid bone in Epstein’s neck was broken.

In Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, Dr Cyril Wecht, explains how the hyoid bone can break in circumstances involving hanging, however, it is much more common in victims of homicide by strangulation.

Newsweek reported Epstein’s lawyers have also argued that his death is “far more consistent” with murder than suicide.

In October 2019, Dr Michael Baden, an independent pathologist hired by the Epstein estate, examined the autopsy.

He found that Epstein had several injuries that were “extremely unusual in suicidal hangings.”
