Joe Swash’s Dancing on Ice partner Alex Schauman forced to pull out of show after ‘freak fall’

Joe Swash will be skating with a new partner this weekend on Dancing on Ice as his partner Alex Schauman had a “freak fall”.

Joe will instead skate with American skater Alex Murphy, who was paired with Brian McFadden on last year's show.

Finnish Alex Schauman, 38, shared a picture of herself and Joe on Instagram and revealed her injury.

She wrote: “I’m absolutely heartbroken to have to announce that I’m not able to perform with @realjoeswashy this Sunday due to a injury that I endured after a freak fall.

"I have missed skating with him terribly this week, he always puts such a big smile on my face.

"I wish him and @almurph18 who is stepping in all the best this upcoming Sunday, I will be there rooting for you and cheering you and everyone else on.

"I also want to give a huge shoutout to the whole DOI family and team who have given me so much love and support this week."

It comes after Caprice Bourret and her partner Hamish Gaman parted ways, with the star now skating with Oscar Peter.

In his exclusive Dancing On Ice column for OK! online , Dan Whiston says Caprice is "determined" to nail her routine after her split from Hamish.

The choreographer wrote: “What with Caprice Bourret and her pro Hamish Gaman parting company, it’s been an unusual week to say the least.

"She’s back and we have spent a bit of time with her, and she seems determined to get as much time on the ice as she possibly can.

"In all 12 series that I've worked on the show we've never been in a situation where a celebrity couple have parted company, so like the rest of the nation, I'm interested to see how things pan out."

He added: "Hamish has also been back in rehearsals with me for a routine coming up, and he still remains a very important part of the Dancing on Ice professional team.

"Up until now our skating couples have had a good few weeks to learn and finesse their first routine but this week they had just a few days to refine their performances."
