MasterChef judge John Torode was back on ITV’s This Morning last week cooking for guest hosts Rochelle Humes and Dermot O’Leary. However, after trying to smash a plate in the studio, John left viewers dumbfounded when he placed an entire block of feta atop his dish.

As the hot weather continues, John showed This Morning viewers how to make Prawn Saganaki, as well as combining all the beautiful things that go into a Greek salad.

The chef told Rochelle: “When you think the prawns are cooked take them right off the heat because what happens is there is so much heat left in there that they continue to cook.

“And if you let them cook anymore they go dry and chalky and you don’t want that to happen.”

Rochelle chipped in: “I did that the other day and overcooked them and I was really upset.

“But, I don’t like them too gooey and then I panic.”

John added: “Well you want them to be crunchy, but if they go like cotton wool that is a problem.”

It was time to assemble the salad and John said: “So, now we have our two different bits of salad.

“Our onions, our olives, our oregano then our tomatoes and cucumber and make sure its big chunks and mix it all together.”

He continued: “Then we are going to take this big slab of feta and there is the salad with feta cheese and this just goes across the top.”

Even Dermot stepped in to ask what was going on and said: “Why do you need to use the whole block of feta cheese?”

John continued: “Well, it’s the way you should eat it.

“You should always do it like this!”

Fans were not at all convinced this was the way to do it and took to Twitter to discuss the decision.

One viewer said: “I thought he was joking with the cheese! #ThisMorning.”

Another added: “This is insane!!!! Why would I put a whole feta on top???? #ThisMorning.”

“That big block of feta looks appealing. Not!  #ThisMorning,” uttered a third.

“Love @JohnTorode1’s style of cooking #ThisMorning @thismorning,” concluded a fourth.

This wasn’t the only thing that had viewers doing a double-take when the chef appeared on This Morning.

Luckily there were no kitchen fires this time, but after a sudden wave of elation brought about by his summer salad, he went to smash a plate on the floor like the Greek tradition.

As it bounced, John said: “Oh it’s plastic .”

And Dermot shouted into the camera: “Nothing around here works!”

This Morning airs on ITV weekdays at 10am and John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen airs on ITV Saturdays at 11.35am.
