Kerry Katona says she wanted to take her own life over bankruptcy

Kerry Katona has opened up on wanting to take her own life after being declared bankrupt at the height of her financial struggle.

The 41 year old was declared bankrupt in 2008 but has since built herself back up to become a millionaire.

Former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner Kerry has now discussed the lows she felt during her time of having no money.

Speaking on Steph's Packed Lunch, the ex-Atomic Kitten singer said: "I was in the house for quite a while after the announcement of the bankruptcy. It was just, I wanted to hide away.

"I felt a mug, I felt stupid, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed. You feel worthless, you do, you feel worthless. You think, 'how have I let this happen?'"

She continued: "It was absolutely awful to the point where I wanted to take my own life. And I understand when people get in debt, why so many people actually take their own lives over money, because I've been there.

"I was close to doing it myself. Anybody who is going through what I have been through, please reach out and talk to somebody.

"There's light at the end of the tunnel, I promise you. I promise you."

Speaking about her personal situation, Kerry said: "I was never taught about money, I was never taught in school, my mum never taught me… I got an accountant and I left it all for them to deal with.

"I found out I was going bankrupt the day I actually went bankrupt. This tax bill was for £82,000 which was nothing to me at that time…. The money had all gone.

"I was completely ripped off and conned, I trusted the wrong people… I was doing drugs, I wasn't in the right frame of mind, I entrusted them with my money so it is my responsibility as well."

Earlier this month, Kerry again spoke about her bankruptcy.

Speaking on Thrillz, the mum-of-five said: "People think that I wasted my money by doing loads of drugs, don’t get me wrong I did loads, but I could afford to do loads of drugs and buying cars, I could afford to buy my cars.

"It wasn’t the fact I lost my money, I trusted the wrong people, so I had an accountant who turned out to be a con artist, and he did it to lots of people, but I was the only celebrity.

"You have to own it, it's my own fault for trusting the wrong people and you what, it was the best thing that ever happened to me when I first went bankrupt.

"Even though I was scared… because you know what happened, all those little hangers on those rats, they all just disappeared."

Steph's Packed Lunch airs weekdays at 12.30pm on Channel 4 and All 4
