Emmerdale star Lisa Riley is pleading for Miriam Margolyes to join the infamous Dingle family – and we need to know how we can make this happen.

The 45-year-old actress first played Mandy between 1995 and 2001, reprised her iconic role in 2019, and has been on the ITV soap ever since.

However, during Monday’s Loose Women, Lisa believes that a certain Call the Midwife actress, aka Miss Margolyes, should take on the mysterious role of Vera Dingle, a character whose identity has been kept hidden.

‘Any interview she does I watch back about four or five times on YouTube,’ she told hosts Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan, Linda Robson and Carol McGiffin.

‘I just love how terrifically bonkers she is, and with that in mind, we’ve seen Mandy’s father who’s a Dingle, but Vera Dingle who is Mandy’s mum has never ever been seen.’

She continued: ‘My ultimate pray pray pray would be that Miriam Margolyes was to play Vera Dingle, Mandy’s mum.’

‘Even if it was just for four episodes, I’m sure she would be busy to just film for a week, but can you imagine us both together.

‘Visually both in leopard print, me and Miriam Margolyes, it would be comedy gold,’ she added.

The presenters nodded in agreement with Ruth saying: ‘It needs to happen.’

Mandy is currently at the centre of a big storyline as she discovers her adopted son Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) secretly married Liv Flaherty  (Isobel Steele) in an intimate ceremony.

Speaking about her character’s devastation over the news, Lisa said: ‘Mandy is broken to the core.

‘There’s deception of what we’ve gone through the past year, the lies, the addiction. This is deception from Vinny, and she really can’t forgive him. And we have these amazing scenes, we had a full day in the salon, and it’s heartbreaking.’
