Love Island’s Mike ‘chatted up teen in McDonald’s’ on duty in police uniform

Love Island's Mike Boateng has been accused of approaching a teenage girl while he was on duty and in uniform and promising to "show her a good time".

Aaliyah Read says she was 17 when the Greater Manchester Police officer approached her and asked for her Snapchat details.

She says he and a colleague pulled up outside the McDonald's restaurant where she was working in their patrol car and approached her while he was on shift and dressed in his uniform.

She made a complaint to the police force, who launched a misconduct probe, but the 24-year-old Islander denies any wrongdoing.

Her mum, Kinda, has said she was "disgusted" to see him arrive in the Love Island villa while he is still under investigation.

Aaliyah has spoken out about the claims she made against him.

She told The Sun: "He came over to me and said, 'Come with me and I’ll show you around Manchester. I’ll show you a good time'.

"He asked for my number. I said my phone was broken, the SIM card wasn’t working, so he asked for my Snapchat. I gave him it and he got back in the car and left."

Aaliyah, who has since turned 18, made a formal complaint to police over the alleged incident in Cheetham Hill in July 2018.

Greater Manchester Police's Professional Standards Branch launched an investigation that month and it was continuing when Mike resigned from the force last month to fly to South Africa to take part in the hit ITV2 dating show.

A police spokesperson said: "We wish to be clear that any allegations must be investigated thoroughly and we must be fair to both those that have made them and those which are subject to them.  There should be no presumptions made until all enquiries have been completed and decisions made.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing."

Aaliyah admitted she was also shocked to see Mike on the show.

She said: "I knew he was going to be on TV but I didn’t think it would be Love Island."

It's reported that the probe is in its early stages and that Mike has strenuously denied any wrongdoing.

He still faces a disciplinary hearing.

Mike has previously said that he stepped down from his role as a police officer to go on the show, but that he has a "good relationship" with police chief Ian Hopkins, and that the door is open for him to return to the force if he wants to.

ITV did not want to comment when contacted by Mirror Online.
