Lucifer fans were heartbroken when the series was cancelled after three seasons on Fox but a persistent social media campaign led to Netflix finishing Lucifer Morningstar’s (played by Tom Ellis) story. As viewers waited for the fifth series, the streaming giant confirmed a sixth season will be aired and now showrunner Joe Henderson has revealed why they decided to extend the exciting drama.

After just three seasons, Fox suddenly cancelled Lucifer and left fans wondering if they’d ever find out where the devil’s heart lies.

Netflix answered fans’ prayers and renewed the show for two more seasons.

Although it was assumed Lucifer’s story would be wrapped up in the fifth season, rumours of a sixth season began circulating.

Speculation increased when lead actor Tom agreed on a new deal with the streaming giant.

“It was very, very similar to when we went from 10 episodes to 16,” Joe said.

“[We were] like, ‘No, this is perfect. If we do this, it’ll ruin everything!

Ildy explained the original season five finale “sped up” several storylines and the team wanted the extra season to develop the characters.
