Mase Calls Out Diddy For 'Robbing' Him And 'Tarnishing His Name'

Though rappers Mase and Sean Combs aka Diddy have appeared thick as thieves for decades, Mase recently revealed that that assumption was anything but true. On January 26, 2020, Diddy attended the Grammy Awards. Whilst there, he gave a speech that addressed a myriad of issues. He shared that there needed to be more diversity in the music industry. He also pointed out the lack of respect that the industry has for the hip-hop genre. Furthermore, the mogul called for a better sense of transparency amongst artists.

While the speech was well-received by many people, Mase seemed to take personal offense to it. Not because the “What You Want” artist disagreed with what Diddy was saying, but because he felt that the “Last Night” artist didn’t practice what he preached. The rapper was formerly a part of Diddy’s record label, Bad Boy Records, and fans assumed they had a good relationship. The artists even collaborated on the song “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down,” but it seems that Mase has some serious issues with their professional relationship.

Mase calls out Diddy on Instagram

On January 31, 2020, Mase took to his Instagram page to publically express his grievances about Diddy. “I heard u loud and clear when u said that u are now for the artist and to that my response is if u want to see change you can make a change today by starting with yourself,” the rapper began, citing Diddy’s speech at the Grammy’s. He continued on to share the ways in which he felt that Diddy had harmed him and his career in the past. He shared that he felt that he’d been robbed and unfairly compensated for the work he’d produced for Diddy.

“Your past business practices knowingly has continued purposely starved your artist and been extremely unfair to the very same artist that helped u obtain that Icon Award on the iconic Badboy label. For example, u still got my publishing from 24 years ago in which u gave me $20k. Which makes me never want to work w/ u as any artist wouldn’t after u know someone is robbing you & tarnishing your name when u don’t want to comply w/ his horrendous business model,” Mase wrote in about the mogul.

Mase tried to buy back his publishing

The rapper continued on to share that recently he’d tried to buy back his publishing from Diddy at a huge profit to the multi-millionaire, but Diddy seemingly wanted more money. “So I offered u 2m in cash just a few days ago to sell me back my publishing(as his biggest artist alive) that always show u respect for u giving me an opportunity at 19 yrs old. Your response was if I can match what the EUROPEAN GUY OFFER him that would be the only way I can get it back. Or else I can wait until I’m 50 years old and it will revert back to me from when I was 19 years old. You bought it for about 20k & I offered you 2m in cash,” Mase continued.

Fans believe that Diddy takes advantage of his artists

Finally, Mase concluded by demanding Diddy do better in the future. “No More Hiding Behind “Love”. U CHANGED? GIVE THE ARTIST BACK THEIR $$$. So they can take care of their families,” he declared. Though Mase’s statement was a shock to some people, most people were unsurprised by the claims. In fact, plenty of fans claimed they’d seen evidence of Diddy’s greed for years. They gave plenty of examples of this and people largely seemed to side with Mase on the matter.

@diddy I heard your #Grammy speech about how u are now for the artist and about how the artist must take back control. So I will be the first to take that initiative. Also, before we ask of other ethnicities to do us right we should do us as black people better. Especially the creators. I heard u loud and clear when u said that u are now for the artist and to that my response is if u want to see change you can make a change today by starting with yourself. Your past business practices knowingly has continued purposely starved your artist and been extremely unfair to the very same artist that helped u obtain that Icon Award on the iconic Badboy label. For example, u still got my publishing from 24 years ago in which u gave me $20k. Which makes me never want to work w/ u as any artist wouldn’t after u know someone is robbing you & tarnishing your name when u don’t want to comply w/ his horrendous business model. However, people would always ask what’s up w/ Mase? So I would be forced to still perform to not look crazy when I was getting peanuts and the robbery would continue. So many great moments and people lives in music were lost. But again, I rode with u in the face of death without flinching & u still wouldn’t do right. I never said anything because I wanted to wait until I was financially great so I can ensured that I was addressing this from a pure place and not out of spite. To add insult, u keep screaming black excellence and love but I know love isn’t free. So I offered u 2m in cash just a few days ago to sell me back my publishing(as his biggest artist alive) that always show u respect for u giving me an opportunity at 19 yrs old. Your response was if I can match what the EUROPEAN GUY OFFER him that would be the only way I can get it back. Or else I can wait until I’m 50 years old and it will revert back to me from when I was 19 years old. You bought it for about 20k & I offered you 2m in cash. This is not black excellence at all. When our own race is enslaving us. If it’s about us owning, it can’t be about us owning each other. No More Hiding Behind “Love”. U CHANGED? GIVE THE ARTIST BACK THEIR $$$. So they can take care of their families

“We’ve been saying did he has been robbing these artists since Making the Band. But this goes back all the way to Craig Mack and nem [sic]. I’m glad someone is finally speaking up because it’s not right what he’s doing to these people,” one person declared about Diddy on Instagram. “He is ABSOLUTELY correct!!! A lot of Bad Boy artist said the same about Diddy. He has NEVER been for “The People”. He has ALWAYS been about the Mighty Dollar. IJS,” another Instagram user added, taking Mase’s side. Hopefully Diddy and Mase can work out this unfortunate situation. Only time will tell if Diddy chooses to publically respond.
