Michael Barrymore 'one of only three' who could have assaulted Stuart Lubbock

Documentary Barrymore: The Body In The Pool has revealed that Michael Barrymore could have been only one of three people who could’ve assaulted Stuart Lubbock before his death.

Lubbock was found dead aged 31 in the pool of Barrymore’s home in Royden, Essex, after attending an afterparty there following an evening in a nightclub on 31 March, 2001.

He was revealed to have suffered a violent assault conducive to rape, with severe internal, anal injuries from an unknown object.

The Channel 4 investigative film ended with an extract from the ruling from the Royal Court of Justice that stated Barrymore, real name Michael Ciaran Parker, is one of only three people with the window of opportunity to commit the assault.

It also claims that Barrymore had been seen making advances towards Lubbock, and supplied him with drugs during the course of the night.

The party itself was brought to the house at around 2.30 in the morning, with the emergency services called three hours later, at 5.37am.

Barrymore has always maintained he does not know what happened to Lubbock that evening and that he was innocent of anything relating to the crime.

He claims to have been the one that found him after stepping outside to smoke cannabis, to find him face down in the pool.

Barrymore was arrested in 2007 alongside his ex-boyfriend Jonathan Kenney and partygoer Justin Merritt, but they were all later released without charge.

Royal Court Of Justice Ruling

[#117] Thus, the material gathered over the years revealed that:

i) Mr Lubbock, a guest at Mr Parker’s home, suffered a violent assault at about the time of his death and a third party was involved.

ii) Mr Parker was one of only three men who could have committed the assault.

iii) A pool thermometer that may have been the cause of Mr Lubbock’s injuries went missing and Mr Parker’s assistant was present at the scene “tidying up” during the relevant time.

iv) Mr Parker had expressed a significant interest in having sexual intercourse and had made advances to heterosexual men (including Mr Lubbock) that night.

v) Mr Parker provided Mr Lubbock with drugs on the night of his death.

In a new statement released ahead of the documentary, Barrymore continued to deny any wrongdoing or any involvement in Lubbock’s death.

‘The truth is I have always done everything anyone has ever asked of me and I’ve cooperated with everyone,’ he said.

‘Essex Police’s own QC has said that: “We know that Mr Barrymore has had nothing to do with this and that there is no evidence linking him with the injuries to Mr Lubbock or the pool”.’

‘I have had nothing to do with this whatsoever and yet I keep getting bashed and bullied by the media,’ he said.

‘I may comment further once I’ve seen the show go out later tonight.’

Barrymore: The Body in The Pool is available now on Channel 4OD.
