NCIS season 17: Who killed Xavier Zolotov? All of the clues you missed

NCIS season 17, episode 14 was a dramatic episode as Nick Torres (played by Wilmer Valderrama) was left fighting for his life after a hit-and-run. However, by the final few moments, it was revealed the man responsible Xavier Zolotov (Nikolai Nikolaeff) had been killed – and one of the team could have been responsible.

At the end of the last episode entitled On Fire, viewers were left guessing over who was actually responsible for Xavier’s death.

Fans will remember how Xavier had tried to kill Torres in a hit-and-run.

In the final scene, it was revealed the major suspect in the killing was Xavier’s girlfriend Coleen Kennedy (Kenzie Dalton).

However, she denied killing him and was adamant she was actually set up.

Then in the final few moments, it was hinted someone else might actually be responsible.

Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) said to Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham): “You know Coleen was really adamant about not killing Xavier. And the evidence we have against her is all circumstantial – all of it.”

He then told her while he didn’t think she was responsible, he was trying to work out who was.

McGee then looked pointedly at Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) as he was leaving in the elevator in the final moments.

Could this mean Gibbs is the man responsible for Zolotov’s death?

Express.co.uk has rounded up all of the potential suspects, as well as some major clues fans have spotted.

Who killed Xavier Zolotov?

Ellie Bishop

The first person to be suspected was Bishop when McGee questioned her over where she went after leaving the hospital.

While he said he didn’t think she is actually behind the killing, it certainly seems she knows more than she’s letting on.

Fans have been taking to Reddit to discuss whether she is really to blame.

Some have been suspecting Ellie as it has been hinted she may be taken under Odette’s (Elayn J. Taylor) wing to follow in Ziva’s (Cote de Pablo) footsteps.

User West-tank wrote: “I think Bishop went to Odette and she had him taken care of.”

Leroy Gibbs

The biggest suspect at the moment is Gibbs after it was hinted he might be to blame at the end of the episode.

User jayt00212 wrote on Reddit: “It was Gibbs. He knew Bishop would’ve probably done it had he not.

“It didn’t hit me until I thought about what he told her about seeing all of this tragedy but knows he has it coming.”

However, plenty of other fans have been pointing out how it does not seem like it was possible his character actually shot him.

This is because as Gus1870 points out: “The shooter was in the bathroom when he shot Xavier in the bath tub.

“Gibbs is a sniper – he didn’t have to be in the room to shoot Xavier.”

Xavier’s wife:

Another potential suspect on the list is Xavier’s wife as she may have been upset when she found out he was leaving her for Colleen.

Although other fans pointed out how she would have likely been in custody at the time so it is unlikely she is responsible.

This comes after it was alluded to how he had some friends in strategic places who might be able to help him.

User jimmyjammyzibzab wrote on Reddit: “Can anyone explain what Vance did with the extra time and high up connections he mentioned to Gibbs at the beginning of the episode?

“I was waiting for that to be explained and thought maybe Vance killed the bad guy or arranged to have him killed.”
