Netflix viewers call terrifying horror flick The Witch the ‘scariest film of the decade’ – The Sun

DUBBED the ‘scariest film of the decade’, The Witch is now available to watch on Netflix in the US – if you’re brave enough.

Since its release in 2016, fans have described it as everything from “one of the best horror movies in years” to “the wackest sh*t ive seen in a while”, while another viewer said the flick left them “praying over and over”.

Directed by Robert Eggers, The Witch tells the story of a devout Puritan family who are exiled from their New England family home as a result of the father’s religious zealotry.

As they struggle to survive in their new home at the edge of the woods, a mysterious, sinister evil emerges to terrorize them, first by kidnapping the youngest of their five children.

The family begin to turn on each other as their paranoia grows, and they eventually suspect the teenage daughter Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) of witchcraft.

Taylor-Joy, who has since appeared in the Ridley Scott produced sci-fi movie Morgan, Netflix’s Barack Obama biopic Barry and M Night Shyamalan’s Split, said that she was excited to work on the movie because it was “so unique”.

“You can be sure that the second you walk in you’re going to be very uncomfortable the entire time,” she added.

The horror’s initial release in cinemas was met with positive reviews and viewers are still shocked to the core when they watch it four years on.

One wrote: "k but the scariest movie most unsettling movie is The Witch. BY FAR. & it’s on Netflix."

While another said: "The Witch is on Netflix now ? Scariest movie I have ever seen. Highly recommend. There are parts of it that I think of regularly because it disturbed me so much."

The The Witch isn't the only film on the streaming service getting people talking.

This week users have been aghast at "insane and graphic" true crime documentary Don’t F*** with Cats which tracks the hunt for a serial killer.

The three-part series reveals the sick and twisted crimes of Canadian killer Luka Magnotta, who started off filming himself torturing animals before posting them online.
