New mum Lucy Mecklenburgh hits back at trolls who say she shouldn't breastfeed in public

LUCY Mecklenburgh has slammed online critics who have said that babies should not be breastfed in restaurants.

Lucy, who breastfeeds her four-month son Roman, waded into the argument after spotting it on Twitter.

The row had begun after fellow showbiz mum Stacey Solomon shared a video of herself defending women who pump their breastmilk in public.

Commenting on the clip, which was filmed during an episode of Loose Women, one female Twitter user said: "They do need feeding, but not when I’m eating!"

The remark instantly infuriated Lucy, who shot back: "Wow!! So u can eat in a restaurant but a hungry baby can’t!?"

Former Towie star Lucy, 28, has since been backed with lots of support, with one person replying: "I can remember been told to go in the toilet to breastfeed my baby, I said to the person to go and eat your food in the toilet.

"Breast fed babies are usually fed on demand regardless of where you are. Lucy feed your baby and ignore idiots."

Another added: "I’m certain people say this stuff for shock value Lucy.

"I was always happy to breastfeed anywhere and not once did I get even a bad look. I’m not convinced people actually care."

Lucy welcomed her son Roman with fiancé Ryan Thomas in March and has never shied away from the fact she breastfeeds him.

Along with photographs of their sweet moments together, Lucy has also spoken openly about her love of feeding her son.

On Sunday, she was filmed breastfeeding Roman during a workout break before going on to answer questions about the subject on Instagram.

She said: "Honestly, we have had a tough few months! It was so hard to see him in pain but post tongue tie being cut and cmpa being diagnosed he's just the happiest baby so I'm happy."

Lucy added: "I plan to breastfeed over a year or as long as it's something we both want to do."

The star said she intends to always give Roman breastmilk, rather than formula.

After being asked by a follower if she was therefore "against formula", Lucy replied: "Absolutely not!!!

"It's very personal, there also may be reasons mums can't or have to stop bf. I would never judge anyone for how they feed their baby. Fed is best."
