Outlander season 5 star speaks out on ‘upsetting’ exit ‘It’s a shame’

Outlander viewers have dreaded the return of the villain Stephen Bonnet (played by Stephen Bonnet) since he made his first appearance back in season two. But when he returned in the latest episode, Starz viewers were pleased to see the heinous character being killed off. Following Stephen’s death his star Edward spoken out about the end of his character’s journey.

Stephen was eventually captured during the episode and sentenced to death.

But as Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) saw him suffering she shot him in the head in order to grant him some sort of mercy.

Despite this, Stephen had already done quite a bit of damage to the Fraser family over the years.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly Edward has spoken out about feeling disappointed on hearing about his character’s end.

Speaking about the character’s dramatic death, Edward began: “It’s a shame he doesn’t have nine lives.”

Edward then moved on to speak about learning about the end of Stephen’s journey.

He went on: “I found out in a roundabout way.

“I was upset because a character like that is never going to last that long, but I was thoroughly enjoying playing him.

“I didn’t want it to stop, but it had too.”

Despite being upset he lost his character, he did praise the writers for his time for the show.

He went on: “I’m very lucky that the script for that final episode for my character was a chance to maybe answer a few questions about who he is.

“He confesses perhaps quite a lot he’s never confessed before.

“He almost goes through a big bit of therapy I suppose, as well as getting his comeuppance.”

While viewers are still enjoying the loss of Stephen’s life, they are beginning to worry about Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser’s (Caitriona Balfe) relationship.

In a recent interview with Glamour, Jamie star Sam spoke about what is to come with his character.

But during the interview, he gave a cheeky hint towards what this may entail.

First, he spoke about Claire’s supposedly newfound powers, saying: “To be honest, I think there’s still stuff to be revealed [with Claire’s powers].

“I sort of secretly know what it is, but [it’ll be] revealed by Diana [Gabaldon, writer of the books] with these next few books and the next few seasons.”

After this, he gave a harrowing clue as to what may come with the couple’s relationship, as he added: “For the time being, Jamie has chosen to remain here on this planet with Claire and they need each other.”

Outlander season 5 airs on Starz on Sundays and Amazon’s Prime Video on Mondays.
