Phillip Schofield admits ‘career is over’ and he has ‘lost everything’

The TV host opened up on his affair with a younger co-worker at ITV’s This Morning, branding it a “grave error”. In his first interview since his bombshell statement was released last month, Mr Schofield appeared emotional as he said he doubted he would ever make a return to a career in TV following the explosive scandal.

Speaking with the BBC’s Amol Rajan, he said: “I have to talk about television in the past tense, which breaks my heart. I have lost everything.”

His career, he candidly said, is “over”. He also said: “What am I going to do with my days?”

“I see nothing ahead of me but blackness, and sadness, and regret, and remorse, and guilt. I did something very wrong, and then I lied about it consistently.”

During the interview, Mr Schofield provided more details about the affair, saying he and the unnamed colleague weren’t “boyfriends” and they only had five or six romantic encounters over the course of a few months.

The first romantic encounter between Mr Schofield and the colleague, who the TV host said was 20 when their affair started, took place in his ITV dressing room.

The TV host added he was “desperately sorry” and didn’t hide the fact he has been hugely struggling since the scandal exploded.

He said: “Last week, if my daughters hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here.

“They’ve been by my side every moment because they’re scared to let me out of their sight.”
