Piers told viewers today: "It was an extraordinary night last night. There must have been complete panic in Downing Street.

"Everyone has got to rally behind him now, no matter what you think about him he is fighting for his life, on a human level everyone has got to rally behind him.

"They would’t have given him one of those beds unless it was serious, that in itself is alarming."

Piers later slammed trolls who have mocked the sick prime minister on Twitter.

He said I just want to say also to those people on social media who can't find it in themselves to be positive for the prime minister, if you are of that mindset jus shut up. Nobody wants to hear trolling against Boris Johnson."

After Piers urged Brits to rally behind Boris viewers spotted that he had been coughing throughout the first ten minutes of the show.

One said: "Piers Morgan looks I'll"

Another wrote on Twitter: "Morning guys. Is @piersmorgan okay? His eyes are red and he seems to have a cough of some kind.#StaySafe."

And one more said: "i think Piers has got Corvid19 he has coughed about 10 times so far"

Piers failed to address his cough on the show but it had cleared up after the advert break.

It it understood the PM was in good spirits but yesterday began to struggle to breathe and needed oxygen.

Doctors watching Boris Johnson closely in hospital became alarmed at his deterioration on Monday afternoon.

He is not yet on a ventilator but is using an oxygen mask – and doctors were preparing a unit to be ready by his bedside should he worsen overnight.

His fiancée Carrie Symonds is facing the agony of being unable to be at his side as he battles coronavirus in intensive care.

Symonds, currently six months' pregnant, is herself recovering after experiencing symptoms of the virus, and is now reported to have left Downing Street to isolate elsewhere.

Worried Brits have urged Boris Johnson to get well soon after he was rushed to intensive care with coronavirus this evening.

Thousands have tweeted their support using the hashtag #PrayForBoris as the PM battles the deadly bug in St Thomas' Hospital, South London.

Taking to Twitter to show his support, one user, Dillon Hughes-Moretti wrote: "Hang in there Boris. Your friends, family, colleagues and your country desperately needs you."
