Countdown regular Rachel Riley often becomes the victim of comedian Jimmy Carr’s not-so-subtle insults in the 8 Out of 10 Cats crossover. This week, the mathematics expert hit back after the comedian once again took shots at her role in the long-running Channel 4 staple.
Jimmy kicked off Friday’s 8 Out of 10 Cats by implying Rachel is all but useless on the mind-bending game show.
The moment came when, at the start of the show, he welcomed comedian and actor Asim Chaudhry, making his first-ever appearance on the comedy staple.
Asim is best known for his role as Chabuddy G in the hit BBC sitcom, People Just Do Nothing.
Countdown host Jimmy saw his guest’s résumé as the perfect opportunity to mock Rachel’s contribution to the subsequent antics.

“Asim stars in People Just Do Nothing, which is a sitcom about pirate radio,” Jimmy explained.
“And not, as I assumed, Rachel’s job description.”
The rest of the show’s guests laughed at the host’s jibe, while Rachel looked unimpressed.
She shook her head and shot back: “Still getting paid!”
Jimmy conceded, “Brilliant”, as the audience applauded her comeback.
Asim went on to explain more about his bold fashion choices and recalled a recent clothing faux pas.
He revealed: “The worst fashion disaster I had was when I was in Amsterdam, and I bought this orange camouflage tracksuit.
“Very nice, very cool and expensive; it was about £400. But I realised I looked exactly like a kebab.”

Despite Jimmy’s constant jabs, Rachel has been one of the most valuable members of the Countdown team for more than 10 years.
She joined the series in 2009, replacing former co-presenter Carol Vorderman.
The Countdown presenter recently welcomed her second child with husband Pasha Kovalev.
This week’s episode also featured comedians Josh Widdecombe, Jon Richardson, and Roisin Conaty.
Meanwhile, comic legend and actor Bill Bailey joined Countdown mainstay, Susie Dent, in Dictionary Corner.
As usual, Jon flew ahead with some impressive mathematics and managed to get the longest word in the first round.
The comedy crossover will be back next week with Lee Mack, Joe Wilkinson and Nigel Ng, better known as Uncle Roger, in Dictionary Corner.
8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
