Rambo: Last Blood, the fifth Rambo movie and the most recent one since 2008’s Rambo, sees Sylvester Stallone back to where we have always known him. The film was not a big hit with critics but many fans took to social media to defend the franchise they love. Despite its various controversies, when is Rambo: Last Blood out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download?
When is Rambo: Last Blood out on DVD and digital download?
Rambo: Last Blood is out on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD disc and digital download on January 13.
The film will be available to buy in three formats: DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD disc from that date, and will likely be available to digitally download from Amazon Prime or iTunes.
In terms of its streaming future, however, it is a little more uncertain, as it has been reported that Netflix and the movie’s distributor, Lionsgate, have a “rocky relationship.”
Lionsgate has also signed a streaming deal with Hulu, so it may be this film is released on that streaming platform rather than Netflix, however this is not completely certain.
Why was Rambo: Last Blood such a controversial film?
The creator of the character of John Rambo, David Morrell, who also wrote the novel First Blood, said he disliked the film, and tweeted a scathing review of the movie.
Replying to a negative USA Today review of the movie, he tweeted: “I agree with these RAMBO: LAST BLOOD reviews.
“The film is a mess. Embarrassed to have my name associated with it.”

After this, he emailed Newsweek to explain his views on the movie, saying: “I felt degraded and dehumanized after I left the theater [sic].
“Instead of being soulful, this new movie lacks one. I felt I was less a human being for having seen it, and today that’s an unfortunate message.”
He added: “This film is typical of ultra-violent 1970s exploitation ‘grindhouse’ films, the technique of which Rambo: Last Blood resembles.
“The sets here look cheap. The direction is awkward.”

Clearly, he was not keen on the movie, and sadly neither were most critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film gained a score of 27 percent from critics, with many sharing some pretty damning views.
Time Out’s Joshua Rothkopf said: “Stallone may not be the best custodian of his own legacy.
“Graying, splotchy and barely intelligible, he turns in a self-negating performance, just as ugly on the inside.”
The Telegraph’s Tim Robey added: “Rambo, and his films, have never been in the business of holding back, but it’s unclear where, as entertainment, this calculated plunge into hate and rage really gets us these days.”
Anton Bitel of Little White Lies said: “Rambo’s one-man war is an ugly brand of extra-judicial fantasy, where nameless goons are trapped and slaughtered in gorily grotesque ways, one after the other.”
Others were even harsher, with The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw calling it a “massively enlarged prostate of a film.”
Ouch – but many fans felt differently and the film still surpassed its budget to make a tidy profit at the box office, meaning this may still be a movie many want to see at home.
