Richard Bacon horrified as his car bursts into flames as he drives his children home

TV star Richard Bacon was left horrified when his car burst into flames while he was driving his kids home.

The 44-year-old presenter, who has fronted Blue Peter and Good Morning Britain, watched in shock as the Land Rover Discovery burned on the road in LA.

He posted footage of the car on fire after wife Rebecca and their children Ivy, six, and Arthur, eight, were forced to make a run for it.

Saying they thought "it might explode", he told fans they fled from the blaze.

Richard posted a picture of a giant red fire engine coming to their rescue, writing: "I guess we’re gonna need a lift home ?.

"Thanks to the lovely Santa Monica fire department and the delightful people on the PCH [Pacific Coast Highway] who stopped to help.

"The car started making a funny noise as we drove home from Malibu. Then dramatically caught fire.

"Because we’ve seen a lot of films we moved back thinking it might explode. It didn’t. Apparently that’s just a movie thing.

All four of us were in there. Everyone fine and happy. May not go with Land Rover next time."

The presenter's LA pal Mark Wright was among the first to reply, writing: "Glad you’re all good mate x."

Richard, who is now based in the US with his family, has fronted some of Britain's biggest shows.

He started out on Blue Peter, before having to hand in his badge in 1998 after being caught taking cocaine.

The star has also hosted This Morning, The Big Breakfast, The Wright Stuff, Good Morning Britain and has a long career on radio in the UK.

Last year, an American TV channel bought his game show The Hustler for an eight-part series, which he will serve as executive producer on.

In 2018, he was placed in an induced coma for week after contracting a potentially deadly lung infection.

He later explained in a social media post: "I nearly died.

"At one point, as I was run down a hallway to ICU at midnight, with a massive needle jammed in my chest a bit like Pulp Fiction, I thought ‘this is it’."
