Rumor: MCU's Storm Isn't the Only 'X-Men' Character Who Will Debut in 'Black Panther 2'

Marvel Studios knew it needed to bring a fresh angle when it introduced Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Likewise, fans can probably count on the MCU trying some new and interesting things with the X-Men.

Everyone has a theory for how the Marvel mutants could be integrated into the MCU. And now a new rumor has surfaced involving Black Panther II.

Storm is an easy Marvel character to bring into the MCU

A lot of the talk behind the MCU’s X-Men has centered on Storm. And with good reason. After all, fans often criticize how under-developed Halle Berry’s version was in the original 2000 trilogy. Plus, Storm often carries a leadership role in the comics, making her an easy candidate for one of the first X-Men to be re-introduced.

But Black Panther II is a particularly strong place to bring Storm in. The daughter of a Kenyan princess, Storm comes to be worshipped as a goddess throughout Africa. And that’s exactly the kind of notoriety that might get Black Panther’s (Chadwick Boseman) attention.

As king of Wakanda, T’Challa would likely want to investigate any potential threats, especially after facing off with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Then he could befriend Storm, who could even prove to be a valuable ally. In the comics, the pair ultimately marry. And if sparks fly, this might complicate T’Challa’s relationship with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).

But the hero might not be the only ‘X-Men’ team member appearing

Rumors put Storm in an even more integral role, positioning her as a replacement of sorts for Professor X. After so many movies honed in on Professor X and Magneto, the MCU could finally be where Storm gets her due. But a new report from We Got This Covered claims she won’t be the only X-Men character to appear in Black Panther II.

According to the site’s sources, Wolverine will appear in the Wakandan sequel. The fan-favorite character is, of course, among the most anticipated. So his adamantium skeleton will reportedly lead him to Wakanda, where vibranium — a major component of adamantium — is located. If this is the case, Wolverine could be trying to piece together his mysterious past.

In the 2000 X-Men film, he had suffered severe memory loss. The MCU could be starting from a similar place. And since Wakanda opened its doors to the world in Black Panther, Wolverine might come to the border looking for answers. If it does happen, this sounds like it would be relegated to a mid-credits or post-credits scene, unlike the Storm rumors.

Which actor will play the new Wolverine?

Even if the Black Panther II rumors prove false, Wolverine will inevitably make his MCU debut sometime soon. And when he does, Hugh Jackman will not be playing him. Everyone has their own opinion on who could take on the role. But the better question is how the character will be reinterpreted for the MCU.

In the comics, Wolverine entered the picture in battle with the Hulk. Since fans have no clue what the Hulk’s MCU future is, it’s unclear whether that showdown will play out in the movies. Yet, there is a strong chance Wolverine might not be immediately playing for the good side when fans first meet him.

If that’s the case, maybe a Wolverine-Black Panther battle will serve as the MCU’s alternative to the Hulk fight. Imagine all the claws.
