Actress Sally Lindsay will be venturing into the famous tent for another edition of The Great Celebrity Bake Off. She will be competing against journalist Jeremy Paxman, comedian Joe Wilkinson and TV personality Georgia “Toff” Toffolo for Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood’s seal of approval. All of the celebrities are taking part in the show to help raise money for Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign.

Actress Lindsay is a well-known face on British television, having appeared in beloved series such as Mount Pleasant, Still Open All Hours and Scott & Bailey.

But she rose to fame in 2001 when she joined the cast of Coronation Street as Shelley Unwin.

The former landlady of the Rovers Return had a turbulent time on the show. From her bigamous marriage to Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne), whom she discovered already had a wife just after they tied the knot, to her abusive relationship with Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward), Shelley was part of some major storylines in the ITV soap.

Following the break up with Charlie, actress Lindsay soon made a decision to leave the soap for good.

When did Sally Lindsay quit Coronation Street?

Shelley was about to get married to womaniser Charlie but plucked up the courage to ditch him at the altar.

Lindsay left Coronation Street in 2006 after her character got a new job at a country club in the Peak District.

Before she left though, Shelley had a one-night-stand with Charlie and fell pregnant with his child.

In a last act of revenge, she told Charlie about the baby and said it would never know who its father was before leaving the cobbles for good.

Despite leaving in 2006, Lindsay announced she would be quitting the show in 2005.

She won the best actress gong at the Inside Soap Awards and shortly after revealed she would be leaving as soon as her contract finished.

This gave the writers enough time to come up with a new storyline to explain her exit from the series.

Charlie got his comeuppance at the end around one year after Shelley’s departure as new girlfriend Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) murdered him after discovering he had been having an affair with Maria Connor (Samia Ghadie).

“I have and always will have a massive affection for Coronation Street, and I want to thank all the cast, production team and writers for everything that has happened for me and my character.”
