The actress reprised her role as Cilla Black for a song from Cilla The Musical. Hosting the evening of comedy and music from the Blackpool Opera House was comedian Jason Manford. He welcomed the NHS staff and healthcare workers in the virtual audience and cracked jokes about the unique evening.

Gary Barlow was first on stage, singing Incredible, followed by Melanie C with her single Blame It On Me.

Singer Celeste and Steps were also in the mix.

Captain Sir Tom Moore and Michael Ball closed the show with their chart-topping cover of You’ll Never Walk Alone with the NHS Voices of Care Choir.

The annual event is staged in aid of the Royal Variety Charity and money raised will help support people from the world of entertainment.

In an opening message, Prince Charles was full of praise, saying determination and dedication ensured “the show really can go on”.

It will be screened on ITV this month at a date to be set.
