Spoilers: Whitney is released from prison in EastEnders as she gets bail

Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) has been sentenced to prison ahead of her trial in EastEnders after her bail hearing went awry several weeks back, but Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) put forward evidence to suggest that her actions in killing Leo King (Tom Wells) were self-defence and nothing more, and therefore she was released on bail during tonight’s episode.

As tonight’s episode began, several Walford regulars — including Kush (Davood Ghadami), Tiffany (Maisie Smith), Kat (Jessie Wallace) and Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) — gathered in The Queen Vic, as the awaited word of Whitney’s bail hearing.

Morale was low among the group — many of whom thought the evident delay in proceedings meant that Whitney had been refused bail once more, and when Gray walked through the door without the young woman, they believed that all hope was lost.

However, Whitney soon appeared behind him, and she received a round of applause as she entered the premises, followed by a hug from Tiffany.

Gray revealed that — given the evidence he put forward was proof that Leo was a danger to Whitney — the judge had no choice but to grant her bail.

While the nightmare isn’t over just yet, this is certainly step in the right direction, and it’s good to have Whit back where she belongs!
