After an embarrassing mix-up and some ill-conceived jokes at this year’s Miss Universe pageant, Steve Harvey has some good news to celebrate. His daytime talk show will return in 2020, though you won’t find it on network television. Instead, the show will air on Facebook Watch.
‘Steve on Watch’ premieres January 6
The new talk show, titled Steve on Watch, premieres January 6, 2020, on Facebook Watch. Several segments will air each week. The show has already started taping at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta and will feature “insightful advice, inspiring guests, and Steve’s favorite celeb interviews.”
“Reaching my audience anywhere and everywhere they are has always been the goal,” Harvey said in a statement, Variety reported. “Facebook Watch viewers are the most energetic, engaged community, and so are my amazing fans. Getting all those people to directly engage on a platform like this is the perfect evolution of the show.”
‘The Steve Harvey Show’ was canceled earlier this year
Harvey’s syndicated daytime talk show Steve was canceled in May 2019, when NBC decided to give the show the boot and replace it with The Kelly Clarkson Show. Despite solid ratings, the network decided it wanted its own show, rather than continuing to air Steve, which was produced by Harvey and IMG Original Content.
Harvey was not happy with the way that NBC handled the situation, saying he’d expected to stay with the network.
“I thought I was, until they made an announcement a couple weeks ago that they wanted to give Kelly Clarkson the owned-and-operated NBC networks — that’s my slot,” he said at the Variety Entertainment Summit at CES in January 2019.
“I thought it would have been nice of them to come to me — as the only dude who’s survived [in daytime TV] for seven years — about it,” Harvey added. (Prior to Steve, he hosted Steve Harvey for five years.)
How to watch ‘Steve on Watch’
You’ll be able to watch Harvey’s new talk show on Facebook Watch, Facebook’s on-demand video service. You can access Facebook Watch shows through the Facebook app or website. You’ll need a Facebook account to view content, but there’s no monthly fee (unlike Hulu or Netflix). However, you will have to watch ads.
In addition to Steve on Watch, Facebook Watch’s other original shows include Sorry for Your Loss, Red Table Talk, Limetown, and Queen America.
In addition to his talk show, Harvey also hosts Family Feud and Celebrity Family Feud as well as his syndicated morning radio show The Steve Harvey Morning Show. He’s also hosted the Miss Universe pageant since 2015, despite some notable gaffes, including announcing the wrong winner at the 2015 event and mistakenly identifying Miss Philippines as the winner of the 2019 costume contest instead of Miss Malaysia. At the 2019 pageant, he also made a joke about Colombian drug cartels that many thought was in bad taste.
