Strictly Come Dancing praised for two same-sex partners including 2021 winner Giovanni

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have praised the show for having two same-sex couples for this year’s series.

2021 winner Giovanni Pernice has been paired up with Richie Anderson, while comedian Jayde Adams will be dancing with Karen Hauer.

People have since applauded the pairings, and branded them as “historic”.

“LOVE that Giovanni is in the same-sex partnership! Another historic moment,” wrote one fan, as someone else said: “#Strictly I'm so happy for Karen, she's been vocal about wanting a same sex partnership, no doubt you'll get some vile, tiresome complaints, but the show is modernising and moving with the times.”

“Two same sex partnerships, good luck to Jayde,” they added.

Another fan penned on Twitter: “Two same sex couples! Spoiling us this year #Strictly”, while someone else went on: “Karen in a Same Sex partnership this year OMG I've always wanted this to happen,” followed by a string of heart emojis.

“2 same sex dance couples? YASSSSS, LOVE IT!” applauded someone else.

Jayde is a self-proclaimed Strictly superfan, and spoke of her excitement of joining the show’s line-up.

“I cannot begin to express the emotions I am feeling, this means so much to me and my family,” she said ahead of her debut.

“I’ve always watched it, apart from a brief hiatus in 2011 as I was relentlessly gigging every weekend (to try and get on Strictly).

“I’ve been a massive fan of the show for years. I feel like I’m watching myself in a dream and I can’t believe I’ve manifested this. Holding this in has been torture for me!”

Echoing similar sentiments, fellow superfan Richie said it was “a dream come true”.

He told Zoe Ball on her radio show: “This is a dream come true! I cannot wait to get in those sparkles and sequins and shimmy across the most famous dance floor in the world! Strictly is the ultimate feel-good show, as soon as I hear that iconic theme tune it’s just pure escapism.

“I’m going to have to cancel my legendary Strictly launch night kitchen party that I throw every year, I’m sure my friends and family will understand."

Noting that he’d be in a same-sex relationship, Richie added: "It’s also a massive honour to be part of an all-male dance partnership, it’s so important we have that inclusion on such a huge show.”

Richie and Jayde join Great British Bake Off’s John Whaite and boxing champ Nicola Adams in being in a same-sex dancing partnership on the show.
