Supergirl debuts Season 5 teaser trailer, poster, and photos

Supergirl’s upcoming fifth season will debut in a little less than a month, and to get fans excited, The CW has released a slew of new material to promote the premiere episode, entitled “Event Horizon.”

A brief teaser for the episode makes it clear that the conflict between Lena and Kara will take center stage in the new season. The trailer opens with Lena (Katie McGrath) asking Kara (Melissa Benoist) to explain why she betrayed her. The impact of Kara keeping her secret identity as Supergirl from Lena will clearly have big repercussions.

The clip also provides a glimpse of the premiere episode’s villain, Midnight, played by Jennifer Cheon Garcia (Van Helsing), who is “the physical manifestation of darkness.”

A poster for the new season was also released. It focuses on an image of Benoist’s Supergirl surrounded by the rest of the show’s cast, including newest cast member, Azie Tesfai, who plays Kelly Olsen, sister of Mehcad Brooks’ James.

Last season, Kelly came to National City to help her brother but ended up striking up a friendship with Kara’s adoptive sister Alex (Chyler Leigh). Now, she’s here to stay.

In addition to James, Kelly Olsen, Alex, and Supergirl, the poster also features Jesse Rath’s Brainiac-5, David Harewood’s J’onn J’onnz, and Nicole Maines’ Nia Nall/Dreamer. The three characters all appear in their superhero costumes or alien guises.

Most interesting of all is that McGrath’s Lena Luthor is also on the poster. She is placed behind Supergirl’s shoulder and has her arms crossed, which makes her look less than pleased to be there.

The poster also gives fans a good look at Supergirl’s new superhero suit with pants, as well as her new haircut with bangs.

Finally, for an even better look at Supergirl’s new costume, the CW has released a set of stills from the premiere episode. The images tease a confrontation at a theater that involves the entire team, including James Olsen as his superhero alter-ego Guardian.
