Ever since SWAT season five debuted in the USA last month with Hondo (played by Shemar Moore) taking time to reflect in Mexico, fans have been gripped to see if the CBS series stalwart would return to his rightful place alongside the rest of 20-Squad. And on Friday, November 12, viewers got their answer as Hondo finally bested the scheming Rodrigo Sanchez (David DeSantos) to regain his spot as head of the team. The instalment went down a storm among diehard SWAT fans who are keen to see what the future holds in episode seven – although they’re in for a lengthy wait to do so.

That’s because the next episode of SWAT season five, titled Keep the Faith, won’t be airing in the show’s typical Friday night time slot on CBS next week.

Instead, Friday, November 19 will instead air a repeat episode of SWAT from season four – episode 13 titled Sins of the Fathers.

But the bad news for fans expecting new episodes doesn’t end there either.

According to the Futon Critic, the following Friday (November 26) won’t be airing an episode of SWAT at all – neither repeat or new.

SWAT fans will have to wait until December 3 to finally see Hondo and co back in action in episode seven.

The news is somewhat of a blow considering fellow CBS regulars Magnum PI and Blue Bloods will both be back with new instalments next week.

CBS is yet to announce a specific reason for the delay in season five’s running order, although CarterMatt tip “scheduling needs” as a possible reason.

Needless to say, it didn’t take long for “upset” SWAT fans to flood social media with their messages of disappointment.

Linda said: “Happy Hondo’s leader of 20 squad again!!!!! But no SWAT next week?! [sad emoji].”

While @chickenchikitaa vented: “How am i supposed to survive without swat for 3 weeks this is so upsetting.” (Sic)

And Jaz replied: “I asked myself the same question all day!! I CAN’T WAIT  3 F*****G WEEKS.”

Monica weighed in: “This episode was so so good!! But I’ll be spiraling until next time.”

And @stinka407 theorised: “So, no preview for next week? I guess there isn’t an episode? #SWAT.”

“Too bad no new #SWAT episode next week,” Jason added while a surprised Amie tweeted: “Wait so no swat ep next week?”

Despite the disappointing news of a three-week hiatus, many fans were still quick to compliment the latest instalment as one of the best SWAT episodes of seasons gone by.

Responding to the SWAT verified Twitter account asking about their thoughts on Friday’s episode, Kelli praised: “Emotionally, it was tough to watch but I’m oh so happy with the overall episode! #SWAT.”

Sandy T agreed: “I’m sooo happy that Hondo is back to leading the team!! Good riddance to Sanchez! #SWAT.”

Mary echoed: “Such a great episode! Gotta love the team back together and supporting each other…. Feeling #swat love!”

“Smiling at that super sweet ending!!! Thank you @SWATWritersRoom!!!!” @floofybooknerd added.

SWAT season 5 returns to CBS in the USA on December 3. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
