Take Me Out axed after 11 years after bosses felt Paddy McGuinness dating show had ‘run its course’

Dating show Take Me Out has been axed after 11 years, with bosses saying it has “run its course” after more than 100 episodes.

The show, hosted by Paddy McGuinness, launched in January 2010, but ratings have reportedly fallen in recent years.

A spokesperson for ITV said: “We’ve decided to say goodbye to Take Me Out.”

While a TV source added to The Sun: “ITV and Paddy have done all the specials you can eke out of a dating show, so it’s been decided it’s time for it to go.

“As with many shows, ratings have slid a bit in recent years.

“But it will go down as a big success — it’s had more weddings than Blind Date.”

Paddy, 46, who is currently presenting BBC’s Top Gear is yet to comment on the axing of the show.

A production source told the publication: “We’re really sad to see the end but after 11 years, eight weddings and six babies, our work is done.

“We have lots of exciting projects with the channel lined up.”

The show sees a single man descend onto the stage from the “love lift” before being greeted by a panel of 30 single women.

All of the women have a light and proceed to either keep their light on or switch it off depending on whether or not they’re interested in the man.
