The Crown season 4 spoilers: Prince Charles plays pivotal polo match in Diana’s absence

The Crown has been a huge hit on Netflix, starring Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby in the leading roles for the first two seasons. As the third series is set to the 70s, season four will features a more grown up Prince Charles along with Diana Spencer.

As filming is now well underway, pictures have emerged of the cast as they make their way into events from the 1980s.

Actor Josh O’Connor who plays the heir to the throne, was pictured this week recreating a polo match of Charles’ from 1983 down in Australia.

Pictures show an incredible likeness, as the star wore a blue polo shirt and white jodhpurs to recreate the famous match.

However, although the episodes currently filmed recreate the couple’s Australian tour in 1983, the scenes are actually being shot in Spain.

The shots come after Emma Corrin, who plays the late Princess Diana was photographed filming last week.

She said on an Instagram post: “I have been glued to the show and to think I’m joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal.”

Emma, 23, was photographed in the role of Diana, as shots showed her greeting members of the public who desperately wanted to get a glimpse of the popular princess.

In a statement confirming Emma’s casting, show creator Peter Morgan described the actress as a: “Brilliant talent.”

After the last series of the show left viewers in 1964, with the Queen having just given birth to her fourth child, Prince Edward.

As the show travels into the future, the cast has fully revamped to accommodate for the huge gap.

Filming on season four kicked off late last month, with new cast additions unveiled.

It was announced last month that Gillian Anderson would be joining the cast as Margaret Thatcher.

In an announcement made via Twitter, she said: “I am so excited to be joining the cast and crew of the crown and to have the opportunity to play such a complicated and controversial woman.”

She noted that: “Thatcher was undoubtedly formidable, but I am relishing exploring beneath the surface and, dare I say, falling in love with the icon who, whether loved or despised, defined an era.

As this series is mainly set in the 70s, it is unlikely that fans will see much of Anderson in her role until season four, as Thatcher did not become Prime Minister until 1979.

Also joining this series is Tobias Menzies, who replaces Matt Smith’s role as Prince Phillip, with Ben Daniels playing Lord Snowdon, the husband of Princess Margaret, as he takes over from Downton Abbey’s Matthew Goode.
