The Tiger King Podcast Host Wants Margot Robbie to Play Joe Exotic

With the Tiger King docuseries taking Netflix by storm, talks of a dramatized adaptation were inevitable. Ever since the show, which exposes the wild world of big-cat owners, debuted on March 20, viewers have been spewing stunned reactions and casting suggestions for who could star in a scripted version. For lead personality Joe Exotic—the Oklahoma roadside zookeeper with a bleach-blond mullet and several piercings who was imprisoned for his botched murder-for-hire plot—several names have been thrown into the ring: Dax Shepard, Edward Norton, Dane Cook, Jared Leto. But in staying true to the twists in the crime series itself, why not cast on a curveball and go for an actor like Margot Robbie?

Robert Moor, host of the hit Wondery podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, which is being adapted by Universal Content Productions into a limited series, wants the Oscar-nominated actress to take the lead. “My preferred casting—and this is a bit off the wall—would be Margot Robbie,” he told Andy Cohen on the radio show Radio Andy. “I think Margot Robbie should play Joe in like a gender switch [thing].”

Cohen said, “With all due to Joe Exotic … Margot Robbie ain’t ugly enough to play Joe.”

But Moor insisted that Robbie does have some physical resemblance to the former zookeeper. “That’s the thing if you look at her eyes, she has these eyes that are just like Joe’s … I think she would do a great job with it,” he said.

News broke back in November that Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon signed on to executive-produce Universal’s limited series and star as animal activist Carole Baskin, Joe Exotic’s longtime nemesis and the target of his murder-for-hire scheme.

McKinnon and Robbie recently shared the screen in 2019’s Bombshell. If they respectively took the roles of Carole and Joe, it would be one wild, leopard print-filled reunion.
