The Witcher show runner already has seven seasons planned for Netflix – and promises more horror than fantasy elements – The Sun

NETFLIX series The Witcher hasn't even hit screens yet, but the boss already has SEVEN seasons mapped out.

Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has revealed that she is hopeful the fantasy series will run and run as she has so many ideas.

Speaking to SFX magazine, she said: “I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons. Right now, it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’”

And while the Henry Cavill-fronted show hasn't even been renewed for a second season yet, Hissrich thinks it makes sense to think longer term.

“The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to,” she explained.

Based on the book series of the same name, The Witcher follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter whose life becomes entangled with a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a secret.

And while the series has its roots in fantasy, the series' visual effects supervisor Julian Parry has stated that the show will have more of a scary vibe.

“I definitely think it leans more towards horror,” Parry says. “We’re definitely taking the fantasy out. I can honestly say we’re not fantastical. I mean, it’s fantastical but in a grounded horror sense.

"For example, with Striga [a woman cursed to live as a monster], that’s one gnarly-looking thing. That’s very unpleasant!”

Filming for The Witcher took place in Hungary and Gran Canaria between October 2018 and May 2019.

The first full trailer was released on Halloween while the eight episode first season will drop on Netflix on December 20.

One of the show's stars, Anya Chalotra, has already stated that she thinks the show could be as big as Game of Thrones.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Anya said: '"[The show blowing up like Game of Thrones] means my life would blow up as well, wouldn't it?

"Yeah. You know, I'm taking it moment to moment and this already has been very overwhelming.
