Author Harlan Coben has signed a 14-book deal with streaming service Netflix. This means his books will be brought to life for the small screen over the next few years. The latest novel to get its own adaptation is The Woods.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Woods.

Set in Poland, The Woods tells the story of prosecutor Pawel Kopiński (played by Grzegorz Damięcki).

At the start of the series, Pawel is feeling drained from everyday life and continues to be haunted by the memory of his sister Kamila.

She was at a summer camp 20 years ago but disappeared when she ventured into the woods.

Pawel never saw her again after the trip but the police suddenly discover new evidence which indicates she could still be alive.

At the time, Kamila left for the woods with a boy whose body was found.

Now, police are starting to think Kamila could still be out there which begins Pawel’s own investigation into his sister’s whereabouts.

He hasn’t been able to forget his sister and is now given some hope she could be alive and is not willing to let it go until he finds out for sure.

But along the way, he finds out some disturbing family secrets which could change everything.

What are the biggest differences between The Woods on Netflix and the book?

The plot of The Woods is based on author Harlan Coben’s novel of the same name.

The Woods was originally published in 2007 but was only made into a Netflix series earlier this year.

While the story of the crime thriller has mainly stayed the same, there are some key differences between the book and the series.

Express.co.uk has spoken to author Harlan Coben about what were the main changes.

Coben explained: “The biggest difference is the location and time – moving the summer camp from Pennsylvania in the 1980s to Poland in 1994.

“Many fans of the show are finding that the novel THE WOODS is also giving them some more detailed answers, especially about the fate of Kamila.

“The novel seems to be complementing the series, and I’m thrilled so many people are enjoying both.”

The names were also changed for the series as Pawel was called Paul Copeland in the book and his sister Kamila was previously Cassie.

Coben also spoke to Express.co.uk about not wanting to do a second series on any of his Netflix series.

This means it is unlikely fans will see anymore episodes of The Woods or his other series The Stranger, Safe and The Five.

He said: “I don’t think it’s fair to make viewers watch several seasons before you get the answers.

“We create the series to be only one season for that reason, and so far, we haven’t felt compelled to bring the characters back.

“We will only do a second season when we are sure it will be as good or better than the first.”

The Woods is available to watch on Netflix.
