Is a May-September romance blooming on The Young and the Restless? It looks like Jack Abbott and Sally Spectra could be the next “it” couple, and Courtney Hope (who portrays Sally) spoke about the relationship in a recent interview.
Courtney Hope jumped to ‘The Young and the Restless’ after her ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ stint
Hope first debuted as Sally Spectra on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2017 as series regular. The character granddaughter of the original Sally Spectra, a huge character in The Bold and the Beautiful canon. Darlene Conley played the original Sally.
The new Sally, as portrayed by Hope, was seemingly brought on to reintroduce the Spectras back on The Bold and the Beautiful. Sally also had a younger sister, Coco Spectra, who was introduced. They were accompanied by characters associated with the Spectras. Though Sally was written off the show in 2018, she was soon brought back. Sally’s storylines included her leading Spectra Fashions, the romantic relationship she had with Wyatt Spencer, and the many feuds that she had with her rival, Steffy Forrester.
Once Sally’s storylines dried up on The Bold and the Beautiful, its sister soap The Young and the Restless, decided to pick up the character and tapped to Hope to reprise her role. Sally’s setting changed from Los Angeles to. Genoa City.
“We really enjoyed Courtney’s work on The Bold and the Beautiful. Sally Spectra is a colorful character that fans love watching,” said The Young and the Restless head writer and co-EP Josh Griffith said in a statement that the show released at the time. “We are excited for her to stir things up in Genoa City and join our talented cast.”
What Courtney Hope says about Jack Abbott and Sally Spectra
Currently on The Young and the Restless, Sally seems to have a burgeoning romantic relationship with Jack Abbott which first started off as a business relationship. Hope talked about what’s been going on between Sally and Jack in a recent interview with Soaps in Depth.
“I don’t think Sally was looking for love at all after everything that happened with Wyatt,” she said in the interview. “So it was like, ‘Work, work, work. I need to make something of myself.’”
But since Jack and Sally’s relationship started off as something that wasn’t romantic in nature, it allowed their bond to strengthen and build in other ways. “Having somebody that cares about her well-being and how well she does and kind of giving her those tips and guidelines for how to succeed and stand up for herself around other people,” the actress added. “I think through that, it’s created a bond that was unforeseen and unexpected.”
Hope also said that Jack is different than the other people in Sally’s life, which allows her to look at him differently.
“He understands who she is,” she continued. “He’s willing to see who she is. He’s willing to listen. A lot of friends in Sally’s life, people are willing to assume. They assume because of the name, the history, they just assume that she’s this rebel without a cause, this vixen or this reprobate. The truth is, all of those things are really just defense mechanisms. And I think he sees that. Because he recognizes it. And I think that’s where Sally, it makes her feel like, ‘Wow, I’m not alone. Somebody can actually see me.’ And that’s exactly what she’s needed.”
