Towie's Joey Turner breaks down in tears as he reveals he's quit reality TV to go on a 'new path'

THE Only Way is Essex star Joey Turner broke down in tears as he quit reality TV.

The 19-year-old has revealed he's going back into education after dropping out when he was approached by show bosses.

He got emotional in last night's show as he broke the news to his best friend Chloe Brockett.

"I'm leaving Essex," he said.

"I've applied to Manchester unis to study fashion design."

Chloe burst into tears – leaving teenage Joey emotional as he explained about his choice to quit reality TV.


In a statement to fans, the star wrote: "After two and a half years of being on the show, I have decided to take a step back and create a new path for myself.

"I started the show when I was 17 years old after being approached by producers asking if I was interested in being on TV.

"Like any other 17-year-old would have done, I said yes and so I quit studying and started filming.

"Even though I was basically a child when I started I have had the most fun experience and made so many amazing friends.

"I am incredibly grateful for the entire experience and now it's time for the next chapter."

Joey became a firm favourite on Towie after joining with a wave of new cast members in 2019.

He recently spoke out about being mugged at knifepoint by a thug who wanted to steal his phone.

The took to social media to reveal how a man "drove into him" on a motorbike and threatened him, claiming he "had a machete".

"Just got mugged in Finsbury Park, happy Saturday," he wrote to his caring fans about the mugging.

"I'm OK. Things can be replaced but it was just a gross experience.

"He drove into me on his bike and then started threatening me, showing me a knife in his pocket and saying he had a machete."
