Trolls World Tour: James Corden opens up on keeping the franchise’s emotion ‘intact’

Trolls World Tour brought joy to many people earlier this year when it was released on digital services rather than in theatres. Although the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced viewers to take up their watch of the new film from their livings rooms, that didn’t ruin the experience in any way.

Princess Poppy (played by Anna Kendrick) embarked on a huge quest throughout the film to save the entire species of Trolls from the harrowing Barb (Rachel Bloom).

Venturing across the entire continent, Poppy was tasked with gathering up the mystical strings to keep the music in each Troll province intact.

Of course, from the first few minutes of the film it was obvious that a lot was going to be expanded upon from the first film in the franchise – 2016’s Trolls.

Now, in an exclusive Express.co.uk clip, members of the cast and crew have spoken out on improving the story and details of the new film.

The clip, which can be seen above, first sees Trolls World Tour compose Theodore Shapiro speaking about crafting the film as a whole.

“The whole idea for this film was to treat it like a musical,” he explained.

“And to have the themes of the film in the songs themselves.”

Guy Diamond star Kunal Nayyar also chimed in with his own thoughts on the film.

While Diamond was a bit of a lesser character in the first film, World Tour allows the character to blossom into glittery goodness.

Detailing how the story is continuing to open up, Nayyar said: “We took this world of Trolls one and expanded it.

“So everywhere you go now you realise there are more trolls.

“More music, more glitter, more dance – more awesomeness!”

James Corden even appeared to give his take on the newest entrance to the franchise.

As the character Biggie, Corden has always had a small part in the film – but he had nothing but praise for the films.

He said: “It feels so much bigger than the first film.

“But with all the heart and emotion still intact.”

This certainly rang out to be true, as a number of trolls were reunited with their families and friends by the end of the film.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “A member of hard-rock royalty, Queen Barb aided by her father King Thrash, wants to destroy all other kinds of music to let rock reign supreme.

“With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends — Biggie, Chenille, Satin, Cooper and Guy Diamond — set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all.”
