Ulrika Jonsson opens up about 'lonely' marriage on First Dates Hotel

Ulrika Jonsson has admitted to feeling incredibly lonely prior to the breakdown of her marriage, as she attempted to find love in the First Dates Hotel for Stand Up 2 Cancer.

The mother-of-four recently split from her third husband Brian Monet after 11 years of a reportedly sexless marriage, with Ulrika, 52, opening up about her split on the show.

‘We made a great team for parenting, but I definitely think we were lost in the children and dogs and obligations,’ the former weather girl said.

‘When I finally opened up to one friend about my marriage breaking down, she said to me, “Oh Ulrika, you must have been so lonely.”

‘It had never occurred to me that I was lonely because I was never alone.’

She continued: ‘I’m never alone, there’s children, dogs, you know. But being lonely is a different thing.’

Heading to the First Dates Hotel in hope of reconnecting (and ending her dry spell), Ulrika found herself partnered up with 48-year-old Bristolian silver fox Paul on the search for someone to make her laugh.

‘I don’t have a type, but I love sarcasm, I love people taking the p***, I love funny,’ she said, joking that the last time she laughed was ‘probably about 2005.’

And laugh she did with Paul, as the couple discussed everything from the breakdowns of their previous marriages to banana sandwiches.

‘I’ve been learning through the last few years and we all think we’re chasing something,’ Ulrika said.

When Paul asked her: ‘Do you think you’re chasing something?’, the Gladiators presenter quipped back: ‘No, I can’t run. I run like I’m running for help.’

‘I’m a real catch,’ she continued, ‘I have arthritis in my hips and a lower back problem.’

After an evening of fun, it seems like Ulrika got what she wanted, saying that she could ‘actually feel some abdominal muscles aching’ from laughter.

So did the pair keep the romance alive? It seems so, with the final catch up reading: ‘After hitting it off in Italy, Ulrika and Paul returned home where the laughs keep coming.’

Aw, you guys!

First Dates Hotel is available for catch-up on Channel 4OD.
