X Factor winner unrecognisable after quitting fame seven years on from ITV show

Former X Factor star Matt Terry looks wildly different these days after being crowned winner of the ITV talent show back in 2016.

The 29-year-old singer shot to fame on The X Factor seven years ago when his rendition of Ben E. King's Stand By Me dazzled the judges, including music mogul Simon Cowell.

Matt beat Saara Aalto in the final and bagged a record deal with Sony label RCA, but he was dropped from the company just two years later.

And although he's stepped out of the mainstream spotlight, he hasn't given up what made him famous in the first place.

Matt has been singing on cruise ships and last month he performed at The Limelight Club on the P&O Iona Cruise.= for holidaymakers.

He was spotted by YouTuber Life With Lucy who told fans in a travel blog: "We had Matt Terry performing, and if you don't know him, he was the winner of X Factor in 2016.

"His voice is absolutely incredible, and I would definitely recommend seeing him if he is on your cruise."

Matt, who recently sported bleached blonde locks, was seen singing a Sam Smith track before dazzling passengers with his cover of Stand By Me.

After winning X Factor, Matt released his debut single When Christmas Comes Around, which reached the third spot on the UK singles charts.

In 2017, he dropped his debut album Sucker For You, which peaked at 29 on the UK Albums Chart, the lowest carting album debut from an X Factor champ.

He was dropped by RCA Records shortly after, at which point he decided to try his hand at acting.

His stage debut came in the UK production of Madagascar The Musical and he returned to the theatre show in 2019 as Alex the Lion.

He then got himself the part of Young Max in Dr Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas Musical.

He's still active on the acting circuit as he joined the cast of Rock of Ages last year.
