The BBC are reportedly planning to launch a dating show to compete with ITV's Love Island.

It is understood that the BBC is working on a post-Covid dating show called Love In The Flesh, which will pair up couples who believe they found The One on dating apps during the coronavirus pandemic.

The would-be-couple will meet for the first time on screen on a Love Island-style first date abroad to see if the spark of romance is still alive in the sizzling sun.

The new series, being produced for BBC Three, will be filmed this summer and is expected to launch onto small screens across the country later this year, according to The Mirror.

The BBC reportedly want to challenge their rival for ratings and according to one TV insider, the new show will throw a lifeline to people craving love following restrictions due to the pandemic.

"This BBC show gives these couples everything they could possibly need for the perfect start ?” they told The Sun.

"A Love Island backdrop, stunning weather, good food and ultimately the date of a lifetime. Online dating has soared in the past year during lockdown.

"With the world slowly opening up, these internet lovers can no longer hide behind their screens and will have to meet their match in the flesh.

"Viewers will be able to follow these couples as they discover if they really have met The One, or whether it's been a waste of time and they're not who they were cracked up to be."

The new series of Love Island, which has been a huge hit for ITV, is set to air on Monday 28 June at 9pm.

Contestants are currently in quarantine in Spain ahead of filming. They are required to isolate for two weeks in Majorca before walking through those famous villa doors.

Rumoured contestants in this year's line up include NHS doctor Toluwa Adepeju, social media influencer Lucinda Stafford and Premier League footballer Aaron Connolly.
