Bruce Springsteen Gets DWI, Reckless Driving Charges Dropped

Bruce Springsteen, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in New Jersey in November, was relieved to get a lesser punishment.

A New Jersey Federal Court judge agreed to drop charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving against Springsteen after the veteran rock star pleaded guilty to drinking alcohol in a restricted area.

Springsteen, who was arrested on November 14 and accused by federal prosecutors of three charges, virtually appeared via video conference in the courtroom Wednesday.

“I had two small shots of tequila,” he told Judge Anthony Mautone.

The court dismissed the DWI and reckless driving charges, noting that the “Born in the USA” singer’s blood alcohol content was only 0.02 BAC, which is well under the legal limit of 0.08 BAC.

“He did submit to the legally required breath test when he was at the ranger station,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Baker told the court.

The punishment was confined to a $500 fine and $40 in court fees.
