Christine Lampard, 42, has admitted she had concerns when first marrying former Chelsea player Frank Lampard, 43, back in 2015. The TV presenter said she “dreaded” being questioned by people about having children, as “nothing was happening”, as they tried desperately to conceive.

Speaking on her fears over infertility, Christine revealed: “I did wonder if I would ever be able to get pregnant. I was asked that question so many times and I just felt uncomfortable.

“I felt if it was going to happen, it would happen, but if it didn’t, then I would just accept that.

“I had friends who were going through IVF and I knew how traumatic that whole journey could be. I didn’t think I had it in me to go through that.

“Frank and I had a great life, we went out a lot, travelled and I had a lot of focus on his children – not being a replacement mother, but a friend,” she added.

The football star was previously in a relationship with Spanish model Elen Rivas and together the couple share Luna, 15, and Isla, 13.

However, just after coming to terms with the fact they might not have children, The One Show star fell pregnant.

She continued to The Telegraph: “One day [in 2018], I thought I’d missed my period, did a test and saw this positive line.

“Frank was away working and it took everything not to call and tell him. I wanted him to be able to be in the moment completely, not at work. He was absolutely thrilled.”

The couple are now parents to two-year-old Patricia and Freddie.

Announcing the news she was pregnant again last year, the Loose Women star remarked: “A new year and a new baby on the way for the Lampards!

“It’s been a strange and worrying time to be pregnant but we’re hoping and praying that cuddles from family and friends are not too far off. Sending all my love to everyone going through pregnancy during this crazy time.”

Shortly after the announcement, Christine revealed her reservations about being pregnant during the coronavirus pandemic, and how she felt about spending the majority of her pregnancy under lockdown restrictions.

“It’s a strange time to be pregnant, as much as it is quite stressful because you are trying to take care of everything, yourself and this little baby,” she explained on Loose Women.

“But on the flip side, you can’t go out, you can’t go partying, you don’t feel like you are missing out on anything because none of your friends and family are doing it either.

“It is a bizarrely odd time to be pregnant but quite appropriate because no one else is enjoying themselves.”

Christine gave birth to Freddie in March this year and said she was “lucky” to have Frank by her side.

Covering for Lorraine Kelly on her eponymous show last month, the Irish star said: “Frank was able to be there but we were very lucky, there were so many women in the early stages who didn’t have that chance, just dreadful.

“He wasn’t able to go to the appointments leading up but he was there for the big day.”

However, she also admitted to feeling “lonely” at times during what was a tough year for many who remained at home owing to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.

“So many people have gone through such horrific times in the past year and being pregnant in that time was unusual.

“You felt isolated and quite lonely,” she finished.
