Out in March: Now bosses appear to have set a new date for Matthew to leave, with the star, 54, taking to Twitter on Wednesday to express his upset

Matthew shared on Monday: ‘Been hearing some amazing rumours about how @talkRADIO management plans to reward my #arias nomination for best speech broadcaster – deets to follow as and when!’

Yet hours later, he shared the tweet again, adding: ‘My reward is: I’m out of Talkradio at the end of March!’

A fan responded to Matthew’s shock tweet: ‘well now you have raised their profile they dont need you anymore grrrr’, to which he agreed, ‘feels like that!’

As another follower asked Matthew for an explanation, he replied: ‘I wished I could – it’s certainly the worst reward for a Best Broadcaster nomination I’ve ever heard of!’

MailOnline has contacted Matthew’s representatives and a TalkRadio spokesperson for comment.

Renewed: Last month, Matthew explained that bosses had decided to keep him on while telling listeners he’s had ‘a tough time with my mental health’

Last month, Matthew revealed TalkRadio had performed a dramatic U-turn and offered him a new contract.

The presenter explained that bosses had decided to keep him on while telling listeners he’s had ‘a tough time with my mental health.’

Speaking to co-host Kevin O’Sullivan, he said: ‘It was all a bit chaotic last night… I turn up for work today as I was expected to do.

Confused: Matthew took to Twitter to share his disappointment and his confusion with concerned fans

‘And guess what happened… We were told we were going to be signing new contracts.

‘So we’ve not been fired with immediate effect… We’re not going our separate ways as I thought might happen at Christmas,’ he said of O’Sullivan.

‘We’re here into the new year and maybe even beyond. There’s never a dull moment on TalkRadio.’

Matthew previously revealed the stress of presenting his long-running Channel 5 show left him with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

He tweeted: ‘Thanks again for all the kind words – I’ve had a tough time with my mental health these past 18 months.

‘I was expecting to leave TalkRadio at (the) end of Xmas but they’d like me and Kevin O’Sullivan to stay on longer now – thanks again.’

Matthew did admit at the time that despite a reprieve, his future remained uncertain.

He told fans: ‘Make the most of it folks. We could be dragged out of here at a moment’s notice!’

His appointment came three months after he said goodbye to his Channel 5 show, The Wright Stuff, which began airing in 2000.
