Meghan and Harry "Shocked" to Find Out the Queen Stripped Them of Commonwealth Titles

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently stepped away from royal duties, which means they a) get to live a peaceful life in Canada, and b) will no longer be working on behalf of the Queen. And while the couple won’t be HRH status, they do get to retain their Duke and Duchess titles. However, apparently they don’t get to continue being Commonwealth Youth Ambassadors, a position that was important to them.

According to a report from TMZ, sources say Harry and Meghan were “shocked” they had to forgo their roles as ambassadors to the Commonwealth, and apparently they didn’t even realize the ambassadorships were “on the table.” But—per TMZ—”the Queen drew a hard line in the sand, and they had to surrender the role.”

The outlet reports that Meghan became a youth ambassador right before her wedding, and she even had flowers representing the Commonwealth nations embroidered into her veil, along with a California poppy to represent her home state.

Despite not representing the Commonwealth in an official capacity, Meghan and Harry will doubtless keep up with the work they’re so passionate about. Harry confirmed as much in his public statement on their big news, saying:
