Meghan Markles mum Doria breaks down as Duchess recalls suicidal thoughts

Doria Ragland broke down in tears one of the latest episodes of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Netflix docuseries.

The final three episodes of the six-part series titled Harry & Meghan dropped today, Thursday 15 December, and in the first of them, Meghan’s mother Doria was reduced to tears as she reflected on her daughter's "heartbreaking" suicidal thoughts.

Meghan initially opened up to the world about having such feelings in her and Prince Harry’s bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview last year, and details them further in the Netflix series.

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed the difficult time in more depth in their Netflix series, Doria also weighed in on it all.

“That she would actually think of not wanting to be here, that… that's not an easy one for a mum to hear. You know?” she said tearfully.

“'And I can't protect her. H can't protect her.”

Their comments come shortly after the Duchess of Sussex explains how she was left feeling suicidal after a royal engagement in Liverpool.

She explains: "We had a walkabout in Liverpool and there was a group of women, and one of them said to me, 'What you're doing to your father's not right'.

"It was the first time that I went, 'Oh my God. People actually believe this stuff.'

Meghan continues: "And then my entire centre was rocked to its core. I was really scared. It was like… all of this will stop if I'm not here."

Speaking later in the episode, Doria went on to add that she understood the stress both Harry and Meghan were under and that “it felt like they were running”.

Harry also discussed Meghan’s suicidal thoughts and reflected on the way he handled the situation.

He said: “It was devastating. I never thought that it would get to that stage, and the fact that it got to that stage, I felt… angry and ashamed.”

Harry continued: “I didn’t deal with it particularly well. I dealt with it as institutional Harry as opposed to husband Harry. And what took over my feelings was my royal role.”

The dad-of-two went on to say that he “hates himself” for how he dealt with it.

“What she needed from me was so much more than I was able to give,” he continued.

Harry further explained that the Palace “knew how bad it was” with Meghan, but questioned why she “couldn’t just deal with it”.

His comments come after Meghan told Oprah that she was “denied help” by The Firm when she went to them.

The former actress claims she asked one of the "most senior" people if she could get help but was told "it wouldn't be good for the institution”.

As she broke down in tears, Meghan told Oprah at the time: "I just didn't see a solution. I didn't want to be alive anymore."

She added she "couldn't be left alone" during her pregnancy with first child Archie saying it was "a real and frightening and constant thought" but her husband Harry "cradled" her.
