Michael C Hall and Jennifer Carpenter: Is Dexter still married to Deb in real life?

Dexter: Crime drama follows twisted blood splatter expert

Showtime hit series Dexter is confirmed to be returning at some point in the not-too-distant future after the cable network announced the news. Dexter is going to be making a comeback with a limited series with lead actor Michael C. Hall reprising his iconic role as the eponymous ethical serial killer. Some fans of Dexter are curious to know whether American actor Hall is still married to his co-star Jennifer Carpenter, who was better known as his adoptive sister Deborah Morgan in the series.

Is Dexter still married to Deb in real life?

Hall and Carpenter met on the set of Dexter back in 2006 when the show first premiered.

In 2008, the couple eloped on New Year’s Day following a period of dating, but the romance wasn’t fated to last.

They later separated in 2010 with their divorce finalised the following year. Nonetheless, they continued to work together on the show despite their personal situation.

Both stars said the split between them was amicable. However, actress Julia Stiles, who featured in Dexter, was forced to issue a statement at the time saying she had nothing to do with the breakup.

Stiles told Us Magazine at the time: “I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer. We are good friends and enjoyed working together.

“This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy.

“Although I too prefer to keep my private life private, I felt compelled to dispel the rumors [sic] I was somehow the cause for this matter.”

Carpenter and Hall subsequently addressed their divorce and continuing to work together.

In 2011, Carpenter said Hall would always be one of her “best friends” and explained they took “very good care of each other”, according to Divorce Mag.

In a separate interview, Carpenter said: “Our marriage didn’t look like anyone else’s, and our divorce didn’t either.”

The actress, who became emotional as she spoke, continued: “I said it before, just because the marriage ended doesn’t mean the love did. I’m crying.

“It’s an awkward thing to talk about your personal life in front of a bunch of strangers, but there’s nothing but love and respect [between us]. Nothing.”

While Hall said it was “gratifying” for the pair to carry on working together on the series.

He explained: “I would say the fact that Jennifer and I worked through whatever was going on with us personally the way we did and maintained telling the story was never in question.”

Adding to a PaleyFest panel in 2013, as reported by Cheat Sheet, Hall said: “It was always what we needed or wanted to do.”

Both Hall and Carpenter have now moved on and are married to other people.

Hall went on to marry fiction writer and former book reviewer Morgan MacGregor in 2016, who is his third wife.

The actor was first married to American actress and singer Amy Spanger between 2002 and 2007.

Carpenter got hitched to folk singer Seth Avett in 2016 with the couple having one son together.

Dexter ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013 before it finished on a controversial note, which left fans angered and dissatisfied with the series finale.

Viewers have welcomed the show’s return with hopes the ending will be rectified to deliver something more palatable for long-time fans.
