Molly-Mae Hague has been forced to delete an Instagram post as fans blasted her as “tone deaf”.

The former Love Island star, 22, has recently been celebrating her success after announcing her new role as creative director of clothing brand PrettyLittleThing.

And on Thursday evening, Molly took to Instagram Stories to share a now-deleted quote. It read: “Don’t call me lucky if I am working while you are sleeping.”

But the star was met with criticism, with many urging Molly to “read the room”.

“So tone deaf it made me cringe,” one person wrote. Another said: “We’re in a global pandemic, girl. They’re definitely people who work twice and hard for half as much while risking their lives. Read the room.”

A third added: “She has taken it down now……..clearly did not read the room and got a load of backlash!!!”

Molly, who has confessed she’d still be successful without Love Island, previously opened up about her new career move in an Instagram Q+A.

When asked what it actually means in the role of creative director, she shared: “So basically I have creative input/lead within multiple areas of the brand e.g. marketing, buying, Influencers.

“It’s a 24/7 role… sharing ideas, coming up with incredible new concepts, having input on shoots, events, you name it.”

She added: “Seeing everyone’s reactions to the announcement of my role actually enlightened to a lot of things I wanted to get started with straight away within PLT. I’ve read EVERYTHING. We have SO many amazing things coming, PrettyLittleThing is only getting bigger and better from here.”

She also revealed the exact moment she discovered she’d managed to bag the impressive role within the popular clothing company.

She admitted when her manager called her she was sat in the car and “screamed”.

“It was in discussion for quite some time but when it was all finally confirmed the first thing I wanted to do was tell you all! It still doesn’t feel real,” she added.

It comes after she said she got a “kick” out of responding to trolls who repeatedly send her hateful messages about her appearance.

Speaking candidly about tackling online bullying, Molly admitted trolls are usually shocked when she replies – with many of them going on to express their love for her.

"Sometimes I'll actually reply to people that send horrifying DMs,” she said.

"I'll just message back and be like, 'What made you wanna send this DM to me?'"

"They'll probably be like, 'Oh my gosh. Molly-Mae, I can't believe you replied. Love you.'"
